Introduction
Talis Aspire supports multiple features to ensure that users have access to more than a simple list of books offering little context or direction to the user. Resources may come in many formats, they can be assigned an importance or annotated, and students can interact with any list item. This means that as lists grow more complex, it's important to have access to tools that allow users to quickly drill down to the content that's most relevant to them.
The list filters that appear at the top of every list in Talis Aspire will help you to do isolate the items you need quickly. They are also fixed to the navigation bar, so will always be available as you scroll up and down the screen.
Type Filter
The Type Filter has a simple function; users can choose which type of resource they would like to focus on, eg you may just wish to view the books that appear on a list, or you may feel that you learn better by watching things and so want to view only audio-visual items. Once you select an option, only that item type will be displayed.
Other Filter
The second filter is more complex, offering a range of different options to filter the list, and the display will vary depending on whether you are a staff member of a student. For staff users, you will be able to filter on:
- Physical vs Online resources
- Items that contain a library note
- Digitisation status of items
- Item Importance
If you are a student, the filter options are:
- Physical vs Online resources
- Reading intentions
- Item Importance
- Items with / without personal notes
Users may also select multiple options from the second filter (eg Online Resources marked as Essential) and further refine their search by combining it with the Type filter too (eg Books which are Online Resources and which are marked as Recommended). These combinations for users offer great flexibility to quickly identify list items of particular interest.
