Context
Talis Aspire Reading Lists (TARL) allows you to load RIS files into the My Bookmarks area. On upload, these can optionally be used to generate a new list.
You may also find this document useful if you are preparing RIS data files for conversion into Talis Aspire.

General Notes
- Talis will reject files which do not meet the RIS specification. In this scenario, the customer can amend the rejected records or take bespoke consultancy.
- The minimum required for a valid RIS record to be imported is a type (TY), a title (T1, TI, BT or CT) and an end-of-record marker (ER).
- Each line must be separated by a carriage return ( \r \n ) and not a line feed.
- Invalid fields are simply ignored and do not cause the import to fail. The relationship between fields is not checked for consistency should one field fail, e.g. 'SP' and 'EP'.
- Aspire does not currently enforce a field-length limit except on author (255 chars) but may do so in future.
- The RIS ‘ID’ tag (Reference ID) is ignored.
- Ux fields are user-defined. Talis Aspire uses U1 and U3 currently.
- The RIS import does NOT support several Talis Aspire specific concepts, including:
- Sections (i.e. the section object added when editing a list)
- The RIS import now supports free-placed notes. These are an addition to the standard RIS spec. Use TY - NOTE
