If a List Item features a View Online button, then a user cannot immediately use Talis Engage to upload a file against it. If they try, they will see a pop-up warning message:
This is by design, as during the development of Talis Engage, a number of Universities expressed concern that heavy traffic to resources hosted within the list could impact on the visitor stats for subscribed content, which would have implications when making decisions about renewals.
If you want to enable a Talis Engage file for such a resource, you have a couple of options:
- If the resource is indeed a subscribed resource, you could look to manually add a bookmark to the list with details of the resource, then upload to the new bookmark
- If you want to avoid duplication and the resource is not a subscribed one (eg, a link to a freely available report which you would like students to annotate), then you can edit the bookmark to remove the 'View Online' button - just ensure that the 'Online Resource' button is unticked:
You can then proceed with the Talis Engage file upload as normal.
