Introduction
Talis Elevate now has the feature to allow commenting and annotation of images. This can be a useful way for students to engage in discussion on important elements of the content you are teaching.
Image annotation
Once a user clicks on an image a marker or pin will appear, prompting them to add a comment or personal note to that specific point on the image. For a demonstration of how this looks with multiple comment points, see below:
This feature also differentiates users by colours so it's easy to see if it is the same students commenting on a point, or whether there are multiple students engaging in the conversation.
If you wish to expand and read further the comments a particular student has made, you are able to enlarge the selected pin and highlight the corresponding comment on the comments pane by showing the vertical coloured line. This aids navigating the comments made with ease, in line with accessibility requirements. See the below screenshot for an example:
When non-text and images are highlighted, Talis Elevate gives you the option to 'drop' the coloured pin to the area you want to add a comment to, indicated with the 'add to comment box' see screenshot below:
Non-text resources
For some content, being able to select text doesn't really make sense and can actually be counter-productive (for example, music scores). For courses where this is the case, we are able to set the course to use non-text annotations only - this means that all resources uploaded to the course (excluding videos) will use the pin-drop method described above. To apply this setting, please raise a support ticket.
Note: If there were any comments made before this setting was changed, they will be hidden from view.
