Introduction
If you're planning on upgrading your Talis Elevate linking to use the LTI 1.3 standard, this article contains some FAQs to help you think about the areas you'll need to consider.
We have already completed or will be completing our rollover including our Learning Management System (LMS) before the launch date. What are our options?
For Talis Elevate you don’t have to move to LTI 1.3 this academic year, the setup will be straight forward and supported by Talis as and when you move across.
My institution has completed the upgrade, what do I need to do to start uploading content?
The process will remain the same, however you will need to select the new LTI tool in order to upload content via LTI 1.3. If you are unsure which tool is the new one please contact the department that did the setup to check which version of the tool is the most up-to-date.
What happens if we have both LTI 1.1 and LTI 1.3 running concurrently?
If you have already uploaded resources using the LTI 1.1 content item tool and then upload content using the upgraded LTI 1.3 Deep linking tool for the same module, two modules will be created meaning you will have resources for the same module split across multiple modules. This would mean things like analytics would also be split across two modules as resources would be split across two modules. To resolve this issue we would encourage all institutions to move across to LTI 1.3 by 1st July 2022 and upload all resources using the new Deep linking tool.
My institution have upgraded and I’ve already started uploading next year's content using the LTI content item tool - what should I do?
We recommend re-uploading resources after the 1st July using the new LTI Deep linking tool. If you do not do this you will have split modules where there should only be one module instance.
The department that would manage the upgrade has decided not to upgrade this year - what should I do?
For Talis Elevate you don’t have to move to LTI 1.3 this academic year, the setup will be straight forward and supported by Talis as and when you move across.
How long does the Talis Elevate upgrade take to implement for the department managing the upgrade?
We are finding that on average the LTI setup can be completed in about 15 minutes and have created a suite of guides depending on your VLE to help with this set up. Please note that there is a point in the setup process where you will need to let us know some ID numbers, we are recommending calls with institutions so we can do this in the 15 minute window to save time for you waiting for emails.
What if we don’t use LTI in our institution?
If you aren't currently using LTI for Talis Elevate then there is no action needed. However, we would say that for security reasons, improved functionality around rollover and a better embeddable experience of content that your institution considers setting up LTI, instructions to this can be found here.
