Introduction
Most Universities choose to use an LTI integration between Talis products and their VLE / Learning Management System to ensure a smooth user experience when linking to reading lists or Talis Elevate items. Talis are upgrading to the LTI 1.3 standard to enable improvements to this workflow, this article outlines what you need to know and provides links to further information.
What is LTI 1.3?
LTI 1.3 is an upgrade to the current LTI service. It is important that we therefore update Talis products to make sure they are aligned to LTI 1.3 so they are still supported when previous versions of LTI become unsupported.
What are the benefits of upgrading to LTI 1.3?
Improved security and a change to the type of link we are using in LTI 1.3 will allow us to implement an improved rollover experience in the near future for both Talis Aspire and Talis Elevate.
When will this change be happening?
The new Deep Linking Launch tools will be available from the 1st July 2022 for Talis Elevate.
The Deep Linking Launch tool in Talis Aspire is now available for all VLEs / Learning Management Systems.
This will require setting new embed links for each product, not a seamless migration as we are making more of this change than just a security upgrade.
What is the Deep Linking Launch tool that I keep reading about?
The Deep Linking Launch link works in a similar way to the Resource Link Launch and Content Item tools you will have been using to date, but with some added benefits.
In Talis Aspire we will be replacing the type of link from a Resource Link Launch to a Deep Linking Launch. This allows us to follow that deep link through the rollover chain in order to avoid annual relinking of sections and links where a rollover has taken place, or to maintain the original link for those not rolling over in Talis Aspire Reading Lists.
In Talis Elevate for those completing the upgrade we will be replacing the LTI content item tool with LTI Deep Linking. We are therefore suggesting that academics looking to prepare for their new academic year upload all Talis Elevate resources after 1st July using the new Deep Linking tool so that you do not end up with split modules.
