Introduction
Talis Aspire can be configured to ensure that only tutors / students on an individual course or module can see the relevant list. This is a feature you may want to consider if you are concerned about users from other courses accessing copyrighted materials where licensing does not allow for outside individuals to gain access, or if the resources your teaching staff are using are considered particularly sensitive.
Note that this is a tenancy-wide setting, ie individual lists cannot be made public or private as required. You can read more about other privacy options here - List Privacy.
If you are interested in using a tenancy-wide privacy setting, this needs to be configured by Talis, and you will need to raise a support ticket.
What does this mean for users?
When tenancy-wide privacy is enabled, users will be unable to view the tenancy homepage. This is because the homepage features a search option which allows users to search all lists within the system. Instead, once users have authenticated with their institutional IDP, they will be taken to the 'My Lists' screen as a landing page.
When students cannot access the homepage, this means that they should access their lists through an LTI link placed in the VLE / LMS. Once authenticated, they will be taken through to the list as usual, but this ensures that students not enrolled on that course will have no route to the list content.
To further ensure privacy, tutors who are setting an LTI link will need to ensure that they are the list owner for the module they deliver, as when they set an LTI link, only modules for which they are the owner will be displayed. Information on how to do this can be found here: Assigning a List Owner.
