Welcome to the January edition of the Talis Product and Services Update.
Talis Aspire Reading Lists Improvements – Navigation Bar
We are continually working on Talis Aspire Reading Lists to improve accessibility and ensure the best possible experience for library staff, academics, and students. After listening to your feedback and making some key changes, we would like to show you an update to the navigation bar we’ve been working on ahead of it’s release on 1st February 2016… Read more on our blog
Talis Aspire Digitised Content Rollover
We recently implemented a change to allow course date selection using TARL time periods in the “Available for Rollover” screen. This populated the date filters and returned all requests with course dates falling within the selected date range. We recognised some customers would wish to only select those requests which have the exact course start and end dates for the time period as they may have overlapping time periods. Exact dates can now be applied, and by selecting exact dates, only requests which have the exact course start and end dates selected will be returned. If you would like to learn more about this, then please raise asupport ticket
Talis Aspire Ideas Review
We have now completed the annual review of the Ideas forums which sees 29% of all ideas that have ever been raised have been completed. A few changes to note:
- The Talis Aspire Reading Lists 2015 and Talis Aspire Reading Lists Archive ideas forums have been merged into a singular Talis Aspire Reading Lists forum
- Talis Aspire Digitised Content forum continues
- The 25 votes limit has been lifted

Talis Aspire Reading Lists – Moodle and screen scraping
This only applies if you are using Moodle and a Moodle plugin which was not supplied by Talis and which does any form of screen scraping to get lists details for embedding into Moodle. We wanted to flag with you that the list overview page is being redesigned in Talis Aspire Reading Lists, and so it is pretty much certain that where such a plugin uses the HTML view of the page to get the info about the list, this will break. At this point we are keen that you let us know if this affects you, so that we can compile a list of customers to work with in order to help you move to a solution that will not break. Please raise a support ticketto let us know which Moodle plugin you are using.
Talis Insight APAC
Talis Insight APAC is fast approaching, but there’s still time to register. We’ve got a great lineup of speakers talking on a range of topics (you can read more about what they will presenting on on the Talis blog) including aligning with library strategic directions and supporting off-campus students. For more information or to register to attend, click here.
We had a record number of attendees at the webinar sessions we ran on revealing Reviews 2.0. We are widening the beta and from the 18th January beginning to move customers that have expressed an interest over to Reviews 2.0, if you are interested in joining us in being a beta university do raise a support ticket to confirm you would like to enable, or if you would like more information.
Please do remember to tell us if you plan to make changes to any of the systems we integrate with, such as Library Management Systems, OPAC, Identity Providers. A change to these without speaking to us first, may cause issues with the use of the Talis Aspire Reading Lists and Talis Aspire Digitised Content. Giving us notice of these changes means we can discuss the process and options, schedule consultancy or support if required so there is no impact to your student, academic, or library colleague users.
